About YOGA SOCIETY OF SAN FRANCISCO

Founded in the early 1970s by Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, the Yoga Society of San Francisco operates an urban ashram (Brahmananda Ashram) in the Mission district and has been tax‑exempt since 1973. The organization offers regular Hatha and Ashtanga classes, breathwork and meditation, Sanskrit and philosophy study, teacher training programs, workshops, and a residential immersion program.

The Society runs daily group meditations and traditional Vedic fire ceremonies, maintains an active schedule of in-person and hybrid classes and workshops, and hosts community events (breathwork, biodanza, specialty workshops). In recent years the organization celebrated its 50th anniversary and has continued to file annual Form 990/EZ returns and operate publicly facing programming and trainings.

Marked five decades of continuous programming and community presence in San Francisco with public events celebrating the Brahmananda Ashram and its teachings.

Longstanding Urban Ashram & Property Stewardship

Has maintained and operated the three‑story Brahmananda Ashram on Folsom Street since the early 1970s, preserving a dedicated space for daily ceremonies, classes, and residential study.
