BAY AREA WOMENS AND CHILDRENS CENTER

Bay Area Women’s and Children’s Center (BAWCC) is a San Francisco nonprofit founded in 1981 that provides direct services, advocacy, and neighborhood development focused on low-income women, children, and families in the Tenderloin. The organization operates a range of programs including a clothing closet, food pantry, tutoring and educational supports, case management, scholarships, and community-building activities. BAWCC combines immediate assistance with longer-term advocacy and infrastructure work; historically it spearheaded creation of the Tenderloin Community Elementary School and continues to partner closely with that school. In recent years BAWCC has reaffirmed and concentrated its resources on supporting the Tenderloin Community School while continuing to publish and maintain up-to-date resource and emergency-services materials (most recently in 2023) for neighborhood residents. BAWCC remains an active, donor-facing 501(c)(3) with an active web presence describing current programs, seasonal initiatives (e.g., Angel Child holiday program), and ongoing community scholarships and services for families and youth.
