About FRIENDS OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY LIBRARY

Friends of the Jewish Community Library is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1976 to support the Jewish Community Library in San Francisco. The group’s stated purpose is to fund acquisitions, public lectures, and other programs that expand access to Jewish literature, culture, and learning for the Bay Area community. In recent years Friends has been a primary fundraising and program-support arm for the Library, contributing substantial operating support in 2022–2023 and helping the Library sustain an active calendar of author talks, classes, music, and community events. The organization maintains a donor-facing presence (including a dedicated donation link from the Library’s official site) and continues to underwrite collection development and public programs as the Library operates independently under a fiscal sponsorship arrangement established in 2023. Friends operates as a donor-facing nonprofit with a long history of sustaining the Library’s collection development, public programming, and community outreach across San Francisco and the broader Bay Area.
