About IDRIS ACKAMOOR AND CULTURAL ODYSSEY

Idris Ackamoor and Cultural Odyssey is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) performing-arts organization founded and led by multi-instrumentalist/composer Idris Ackamoor (with longtime collaborator Rhodessa Jones). The organization produces interdisciplinary theatrical and music works, presents the Cultural Odyssey performance series, conducts artist residencies and tours, and provides technical assistance and fiscal sponsorship to community artists and ensembles. Cultural Odyssey operates sustained community programs — most notably The Medea Project: Theater for Incarcerated Women — and maintains an active performance and touring calendar (including presentations by Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids). In recent years the organization has continued to receive public arts funding and to present co-productions and residencies that support Black and under-resourced Bay Area artists.
