About 42ND STREET MOON

42nd Street Moon is a professional San Francisco theatre company (founded 1993) dedicated to preserving, presenting, and reimagining classic and lesser-known works of American musical theatre while also mounting contemporary shows that fit the company’s intimate staging style. The organization operates a producing arm and an education program (MoonSchool) offering musical-theatre training for children, teens, and adults. In recent seasons Moon has continued active producing and community work: it celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023, mounted productions through the 2023–2024 season (including a spring 2024 run of Forever Plaid at the Gateway Theatre), and ran outreach and training programs for local performers and students. The company is a signatory to the Bay Area Theatre Agreement (Actors’ Equity) and routinely collaborates with Bay Area artists and institutions.

Since 1993 the company has restored and staged rare or forgotten American musicals, including American premieres and revivals of works by Kern, Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter and others, expanding access to neglected pieces of musical-theatre history.
