About LA POCHA NOSTRA INTER-CULTURAL PERFORMANCE AND COMMUNITY ARTS PRO

La Pocha Nostra is a trans-disciplinary performance collective and 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in San Francisco that produces experimental performance, spoken-word, workshops, residencies and community-activated projects. Founded in the early 1990s and recognized as tax-exempt since 2001, the organization is led by a rotating core ensemble and founding artistic director Guillermo Gómez-Peña and collaborators.

The organization’s practice blends political critique, ritual, pedagogy and multimedia spectacle to confront issues of border politics, identity, race, gender and cultural appropriation. In the past 2–3 years La Pocha Nostra has continued active programming — including live performances, film screenings, public workshops and archival activations — and has received local and state arts funding to support legacy planning and public presentation of its archives and new works.

San Francisco Arts Commission Artistic Legacy Award (2023)

Awarded an SFAC Artistic Legacy grant to support legacy planning, activation of the company’s living archives, and public programming that documents and preserves decades of performance work.

California Arts Council Grant Support
