About JUNIOR LEAGUE OF HONOLULU INC

The Junior League of Honolulu (JLH) is a volunteer-led organization of women, founded in 1923, that develops leadership skills and mobilizes trained volunteers to address community needs across Oʻahu. JLH focuses on advancing women’s leadership and building partnerships to deliver community programs, short-term service projects, and financial grants. The League runs and incubates signature programs (including My Story, Kids in the Kitchen, and the Bella Project, which now operates under YWCA/Dress for Success Honolulu) and has a long history of civic involvement, including leading historic preservation work in the mid-20th century. In recent years JLH celebrated its 100th anniversary (2023), distributed competitive community grants, reinstated member training cohorts and provisional cohorts in 2024–2025 to strengthen leadership development, and launched community fundraising/campaign activity such as the 2026 "Honor Her. Empower Her." International Women’s Day campaign.

100th Anniversary (2023)

Marked a centennial year of service with a public celebration and community grantmaking; the League awarded discretionary grants to multiple local nonprofits as part of its 100th‑year activities.

Signature Community Programs

Developed and sustained community programs that address youth empowerment, nutrition, and self-esteem — notable initiatives include My Story, Kids in the Kitchen, and the Bella Project (the prom‑dress program now run in partnership with YWCA/Dress for Success Honolulu).

Historic Preservation Leadership

Led extensive historical research and restoration efforts in the 1960s for ʻIolani Palace and other civic preservation projects, demonstrating long-term impact on Honolulu’s cultural heritage.
