About HONOLULU THEATRE FOR YOUTH
Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY) is a long-established nonprofit children’s theatre and drama-education organization based in Honolulu, founded in 1955. HTY produces touring and in-house theatrical productions, classroom residencies, digital field-trip content, and professional development for educators across Hawaiʻi’s islands.
HTY positions itself as a “theatre of place,” centering Pacific and Hawaiian stories and working with BIPOC and Native Hawaiian artists; it operates a resident company, mounts multi-island school tours, develops digital resources for classrooms, and maintains an ongoing television/digital series. In recent years HTY has continued in-person and virtual programming, planned national touring of select productions, and sustained a budget on the order of approximately $2M (fiscal year reported ending May 2025) with net assets in the mid-six-figures.
