About Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony Association

Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony Association (EIN 99-0119771) is Hawaii’s statewide youth orchestra organization, incorporated in 1964 and recognized as a 501(c)(3). The organization provides ensemble- and community-based music education for students ages 7–18 across the Hawaiian Islands, welcoming participants from public, private and home schools.

HYS delivers year-round programming including multi-level symphony ensembles, string academy programs, summer intensives, jazz and ʻukulele offerings, free community concerts, and alliances with national partners to expand access. Recent organizational scale and transparency are reflected in its fiscal year ending June 2024 reporting and continued public programming and partnerships over the past 2–3 years.

60th Season (2024–25)

Celebrated the organization’s 60th season in 2024–25 with expanded programming and public concerts; the Class of 2024 included 63 seniors from 20 schools.

Statewide reach — 110+ schools

Operates as Hawaii’s only statewide youth orchestral program, serving youth ages 7–18 with programs that annually include students from over 110 public, private and home schools across the islands.
