Founded in 1973, Mental Health Kōkua is a Hawaii-based 501(c)(3) organization that provides community mental health services, supportive housing, case management, psychiatry, peer support, outpatient programs and outreach across the Hawaiian Islands. The organization operates more than thirty program locations on Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island and operates targeted programs for homeless adults and adults with serious mental illness, including the Pūnāwai Rest Stop hygiene center. Mental Health Kōkua’s programs have been CARF-accredited since 1997 and it is a contracted provider for the Hawaiʻi Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD). In recent years the agency has grown in scale: it reported roughly $18.9 million in revenue for fiscal year 2024 and maintains multi‑million dollar assets. In January 2024 MHK was selected for a $5.5 million County Affordable Housing Production award to convert the historic Manago Hotel into workforce housing (the planned acquisition and conversion did not finalize in mid‑2024).
