About Conservation Council for Hawai‘i (CCH)
Conservation Council for Hawai‘i (CCH) is one of Hawai‘i’s oldest and most active wildlife organizations, operating since 1950 as a state-level conservation and advocacy group and serving as the Hawai‘i affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation. The organization focuses on policy advocacy, coalition building, education, and community-facing events to protect native species and habitats across the islands.
In the last 2–3 years CCH has maintained a visible program of public events (including its annual Manu o Kū festival and membership & awards meetings), advocacy campaigns on ocean and endangered-species protections, and legal/negotiated actions to reduce threats to seabirds and other native wildlife. CCH continues to engage members, partner organizations, and the public through volunteer opportunities, legislative alerts, and community outreach while operating as an active, donor-facing 501(c)(3).
Notable achievements
Longstanding statewide conservation leadership
Founded in 1950, CCH has played a continuous role shaping Hawaiian conservation policy, stewardship campaigns, and public education for over seven decades, marking a 75th anniversary milestone in 2025.
Legal/negotiated protection for endangered seabirds
In 2024 CCH, together with partner conservation organizations and legal counsel, reached a settlement with a major utility to reduce impacts on endangered and threatened seabirds on Maui, reflecting active conservation enforcement and advocacy work.
Consistent public programs and member engagement
Across 2023–2025 CCH sustained public-facing programs (festivals, guided bird walks, volunteer habitat projects) and donor/member campaigns (including participation in local giving campaigns), strengthening community stewardship for native species.
