About RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF HAWAII INC

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii (RMHC‑HI) operates two residential Houses and an in‑hospital Family Room to provide lodging, meals, transportation support and family services for caregivers of seriously ill children receiving specialized medical care on Oʻahu. RMHC‑HI has served families from across the Hawaiian Islands and the Pacific for decades, keeping families close to the medical care their children need while reducing the financial and emotional burdens of long hospital stays. The organization combines residential hospitality with programs such as hospitality carts, a Family Recreation Center, volunteer meal programs and community partnerships to support family well‑being.

Notable achievements

Family Recreation Center Opening

Completed a multi‑purpose Family Recreation Center at the Judd Hillside House featuring an indoor treehouse, gaming and play areas, a reading loft and a custom 18‑foot ‘Tree of Hope’ to create therapeutic play and gathering spaces for resident families.

Families Served Milestone

Reached a long‑term service milestone of tens of thousands of families and well over one hundred thousand room nights of support since opening (RMHC‑HI reports nearly 15,000 families and roughly 140,000 room nights in recent public communications), demonstrating sustained local impact in keeping families near care.

Leadership Transition

Completed a planned leadership transition with the appointment of Ed Nishioka as President & CEO in February 2024, positioning the organization for expanded fundraising and program development after the long tenure of the prior executive director.
