About HAWAII JAPANESE SCHOOL

The Hawaii Japanese School (commonly known as Rainbow Gakuen) is a 501(c)(3) supplementary Japanese school founded in 1974 and based in Honolulu. The school operates primarily as a Saturday program using Japanese textbooks and curricula to prepare students for smooth transitions into the Japanese education system while nurturing bicultural understanding. About five hundred students attend Rainbow Gakuen; the school runs language, cultural and extracurricular programs (including participation in community events such as the Honolulu Festival) and maintains governance through a volunteer Board of Directors and an active parents’ organization.
