About PACIFIC GATEWAY CENTER

Pacific Gateway Center (PGC) is a Honolulu-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1973 that serves low-income residents, immigrants, refugees and other vulnerable populations across Oʻahu and neighboring islands. The organization provides immigration services, workforce and economic development programs, language access through the Hawaiʻi Language Bank, and emergency recovery support. PGC operates as an affiliate of national immigration service networks and partners with government and philanthropic funders to expand access to services and opportunities for newcomer and underserved communities.

Notable achievements

Established multi-language Hawaiʻi Language Bank

Built and expanded the Hawaiʻi Language Bank to provide interpretation and translation services in 300+ languages, improving language access for immigrants, service providers, and government agencies across the state.

Decades-long immigrant and refugee service delivery

Operating since 1973 (originally as an immigrant center), PGC has delivered sustained immigration, resettlement and skills-training programs that have supported thousands of newcomers and low-income residents toward self-sufficiency.

Recent emergency recovery and grant-supported expansion

In the last 2–3 years PGC provided targeted emergency recovery assistance for immigrant and refugee victims of the 2023 Maui fires and secured state and local grant funding to expand immigrant resource and recovery services.
