CHILDRENS DISCOVERY CENTER

The Children’s Discovery Center (also known as Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center) is a nonprofit children’s museum in Honolulu that offers interactive, play-based galleries and educational programs for early learners and their families. Founded from a community capital campaign and relocated to a permanent facility in Kakaʻako in 1998, the Center focuses on early childhood development, STEAM exploration, and culturally responsive exhibits. Through year-round programs—early childhood classes, Discovery Camps, school visits, and family events—the Center serves preschool and early elementary children (ages 0–10) as a curricular supplement and community learning resource. The Center explicitly provides subsidized and low-cost access for school groups and Title I schools to increase equity in hands-on learning opportunities. Since the pandemic the Center has shown measurable recovery and growth: attendance rose from about 41,000 (2021) to 63,000 (2022) and to approximately 74,000 guests in 2023, and it continues to host large numbers of school field trips and community groups.
