About NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF HAWAII

The National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii (NKFH) is the state’s leading 501(c)(3) organization focused on preventing chronic kidney disease (CKD), improving patient care, and supporting families affected by kidney disease across Hawaiʻi. NKFH delivers community education, early detection screening, nutrition and disease-management programs, patient services and support groups, and operates donation-driven fundraising programs to sustain operations. NKFH is an affiliate of the National Kidney Foundation and works with healthcare providers, state agencies, community partners, and schools to address health disparities—particularly among Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and other underserved populations—while running statewide initiatives such as Healthy Keiki, nutrition counseling, and vehicle donation campaigns that fund programs.

Notable achievements

Statewide prevention & education programs

Built and sustained a suite of programs across Hawaiʻi—including Healthy Keiki (family-based obesity prevention), CKD prevention and screening, nutrition counseling, and patient services—that deliver education and early-detection activities statewide.

Longstanding vehicle-donation fundraising model

Operates a vehicle-donation program (Kidney Cars) and related donation campaigns that have been a major source of contributed revenue, enabling continued program delivery and community services.

Partnerships to expand access

Established collaborations with local organizations and state health partners to extend program reach (for example, partnerships to manage donation centers and to integrate Healthy Keiki into early care and education efforts).
