About HAWAII UNITED OKINAWA ASSOCIATION

The Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) is an active 501(c)(3) umbrella organization that represents Okinawan clubs and individuals across Hawaii and seeks to promote, perpetuate, and preserve Okinawan culture. HUOA operates the Hawaii Okinawa Center in Waipahu and coordinates cultural programming, classes, scholarships, student exchanges, and community events. HUOA is best known for producing the annual Okinawan Festival (the organization’s largest public event), supporting a network of member clubs and cultural practitioners, and running year-round programs that serve both the Okinawan community and the broader public. In recent years HUOA has continued in-person and modified events (including a year-long 125th-anniversary commemoration in 2025) and adjusted festival formats when venue or public-health constraints required changes.
