About MANOA HERITAGE CENTER

Mānoa Heritage Center is a 3.5-acre living classroom in Honolulu that preserves and interprets Kūkaʻōʻō Heiau, historic Kūaliʻi (the Cooke family residence), and a network of native and culturally significant gardens. The organization operates the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Visitor Education Hale (a LEED-certified education facility) to expand public programs and school-based learning. Mānoa Heritage Center delivers reservation-based public tours, robust school tour programming aligned with Hawaiʻi state standards, community workshops (gardening, kapa, hula, traditional healing), and special public series. Recent activity includes a new Mānoa Through Time public tour series launched April 12, 2025, expanded school tour reach (over 5,200 students in SY 2024–25), artist residencies, and ongoing plant propagation and community distribution efforts to support native-plant stewardship.

Notable achievements

LEED Gold Visitor Education Hale (2018)

Completed a 4,125 sq. ft. Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Visitor Education Hale (LEED-certified) as the culmination of a $5 million capital campaign, increasing educational capacity and program delivery on-site.

Expanded School Tour Impact

Provided no-cost, standards-aligned school tours and related curriculum supports with over 5,200 student visits during the 2024–2025 school year, including bus subsidy support for qualifying groups.

Launched Mānoa Through Time (2025)

Introduced a public, in-depth tour series (first program held April 12, 2025) that combines archaeology, moʻolelo, geology, and Hawaiian worldview to deepen visitor understanding of the valley’s layered history.
