About HAWAII PUBLIC TELEVISION FOUNDATION

HAWAII PUBLIC TELEVISION FOUNDATION (dba PBS Hawai‘i) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational broadcaster and the sole PBS member station serving the State of Hawai‘i. The organization operates statewide television services and digital platforms to advance learning, civic engagement, culture and the arts.

PBS Hawai‘i produces and presents a mix of national PBS programming and locally produced content — including long-running local series and education initiatives — and operates transmitters and translators to reach viewers across the major Hawaiian Islands. The foundation also runs signature education programs that support student media literacy and community storytelling while maintaining audited financial reporting and regular public Form 990 filings.

Notable achievements

60th Anniversary (1966–2026)

Marked six decades of statewide service with a 60th-anniversary program and archival features in 2026 that showcased the station’s local history and digitized archival content.

HIKI NŌ — Statewide Student News Network

Maintains HIKI NŌ, a long-running student storytelling and digital-literacy initiative that connects schools across the islands and gives students hands-on experience in journalism and media production.

Statewide Broadcast Infrastructure

Owns and operates the station facilities and transmitters (including KHET and KMEB) and a network of translators to provide educational programming across all major Hawaiian islands as the state’s licensed educational broadcaster.
