About HAWAIIAN LEGACY FOUNDATION
The Hawaiian Legacy Foundation is a Honolulu-based 501(c)(3) cultural nonprofit devoted to preserving and sharing Hawaiian history and music through documentary film, archival work, educational programs, and community outreach. The organization manages the Eddie Kamae archive and produces teaching materials, study guides, and multimedia resources intended for K–12 and post-secondary classrooms. In recent years the foundation has completed a major digitization project (including 207 raw videotapes from the documentary Lahaina: Waves of Change) in partnership with the ʻUluʻulu moving archive and with grant support for preservation and access. The foundation is actively fundraising to create an endowment with the University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu to maintain and expand access to the archive and to support ongoing education work. The organization traces its public charitable status back to the early 2000s, is actively filing IRS Form 990 returns, and continues to operate a public-facing website offering free resources (including the Eddie Kamae Songbook) and educational materials used across Hawaiʻi.
