KAHEA THE HAWAIIAN ENVIRONMENTAL ALLIANCE

KAHEA: The Hawaiian-Environmental Alliance is a Hawaiian-led grassroots nonprofit based in Honolulu that combines cultural practice with environmental advocacy to protect sacred places, native species, coastal and summit ecosystems, and community health across the islands. The organization organizes public education, policy advocacy, and community campaigns — with programs focused on sacred summits (Mauna Kea), ocean protection (including the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands), environmental justice, land and cultural rights, and functioning food systems. In recent years KAHEA has remained active in state and federal advocacy, public testimony, community organizing, and partnership-driven programs; staff and volunteers continue to publish analysis and testimony, organize Environmental Justice bus tours and campaigns, and coordinate funds and support for community-based aloha ʻāina efforts. KAHEA describes itself as an intergenerational alliance with a broad membership base and an on-the-ground presence in Honolulu and the islands.
