About KIDS HURT TOO HAWAII
Kids Hurt Too Hawaiʻi (tax-exempt since 2001) is a Honolulu-based 501(c)(3) that provides free peer support groups, mentoring, education and crisis intervention for children, youth (ages 3–19) and their caregivers affected by grief and trauma. Its program model combines Healing Young Hearts peer groups, ʻĀina-based mentoring, culturally informed training, and rapid crisis response rooted in Family Strengthening and Native Hawaiian values. In the last 2–3 years the organization expanded statewide services (offices on Oʻahu and program presence on Maui) and deployed a Mobile Grief & Trauma Unit to reach families in schools, temporary housing, and community sites. Kids Hurt Too reports running several hundred peer-group sessions each year, serving roughly 1,500–2,000 children and family members annually, and continuing community training and crisis interventions to support children after events such as the 2023 Maui wildfires.
