About WALISHA FOUNDATION

Walisha Foundation is a U.S.-organized public charity focused on transforming smallholder agriculture in Africa through a farm-to-market approach that emphasizes training, infrastructure, and inclusive value‑chain development. The organization concentrates initial programming on staple commodities (notably wheat and maize) and pilots in Rwanda while building partnerships to scale regionally.

Since beginning program work in late 2023, Walisha has combined NGO programming with a commodity-trading social enterprise model, published an impact snapshot and one-year report, launched the 'Adopt a Farmer' fundraising campaign, and run fellowship and youth-engagement initiatives to cultivate agripreneurship and long-term, locally led agricultural development.

Notable achievements

Strategic national partnerships

Established collaborations with academic and government partners (including the national agricultural research/extension institutions and a leading university in Rwanda) to pilot programs, align curricula, and scale farmer training.

Adopt a Farmer campaign & published impact materials

Launched a donor-facing 'Adopt a Farmer' fundraising campaign and produced an impact snapshot and a one‑year impact report documenting early field stories, program models, and lessons from initial pilots (program activity reported across 2023–2025).

Integrated social enterprise model

Built a commodity-trading social enterprise component that invests in harvesting and post-harvest facilities, with profits recycled into grant-backed projects and infrastructure to increase sustainability and farmer incomes.
