About FARMERS FOR FORESTS

Farmers for Forests is a nonprofit initiative that began as a social-enterprise effort in India (founded December 2019) and operates a U.S. nonprofit arm (Farmers for Forests Inc) to accept tax-exempt donations. The organization works primarily in India with smallholder farmers, indigenous and rural communities to create and protect biodiverse agroforests and to reduce deforestation and related human-wildlife conflict.

Programs include agroforestry conversion of degraded land, forest protection and restoration, human–elephant conflict prevention, urban biodiversity work, and climate-education. Farmers for Forests pairs field work with technology (satellite monitoring, multispectral drone imagery, AI analytics) and incentive mechanisms (conditional cash transfers and donor-tracking for specific plantings) and has published field dispatches and program updates in 2023–2025 describing active work in Maharashtra and other regions.
