About DETOUR PRODUCTIONS

Detour Productions is a San Francisco–based devised dance-theater ensemble that creates immersive, site-responsive works blending dance, drag, and theater while prioritizing queer, trans, disabled, and BIPOC artists and audiences. Founded and co-directed by Kat Gorospe Cole and Eric Garcia, the organization produces marquee immersive seasons, a monthly cabaret series (Clutch The Pearls), dance-film projects, and artist workshops and intensives designed to develop and sustain queer-centered performance practice. This profile was prepared after verifying that the organization is an active, donor-facing nonprofit using EIN 99-2275004 on its donation platforms and in public grant records; Detour converted to 501(c)(3) status in 2024 and has received public arts funding and foundation support in the last 2–3 years.

Notable achievements

501(c)(3) conversion (2024)

Detour transitioned from a fiscally sponsored/grassroots collective into an independent 501(c)(3) public charity in 2024, establishing formal nonprofit status to expand fundraising and program capacity.

California Arts Council General Operating Grant (2023–24)

Awarded significant general operating support in 2023–24 to underwrite a home season and organizational capacity-building, enabling paid leadership and expanded artist development programming.

Major immersive productions and touring work

Produced a sequence of site-responsive, community-rooted productions in recent seasons (notably We Build Houses Here in 2023 and The Twilight Aristocracy in 2024), expanding audience reach through nontraditional venues and accompanying workshop programs.
