The Denver Park Trust is the philanthropic partner for Denver Parks & Recreation, working with community leaders and residents to add new parks, enhance existing green spaces, and promote stewardship and resiliency across Denver.
Since its founding in 2019, the Denver Park Trust has secured $1.6M to invest directly into Denver parks. The organization primarily works in Denver's historically under-resourced neighborhoods, which experience greater economic, social, health, and environmental challenges than other parts of the city. The Denver Park Trust has four focus areas: 1. Adding new parks where people don't have access to public green space 2. Enhancing existing parks through large-scale amenities like playgrounds, trails, and public art 3. Funding community-led park initiatives 4. Mobilizing volunteers for park resiliency and beautification projects

The Denver Park Trust uses Denver Parks & Recreation’s Neighborhood Equity Index to ensure it invests in neighborhoods that need it most. Measured through factors like income, health disparities, historic underinvestment, and youth population, nearly all of the Denver Park Trust’s projects are located in Level 3, 4, or 5 neighborhoods. Few exceptions are made for projects with city-wide historical, cultural, and environmental impacts.
Denver's park system is ranked #11 in the nation
According to the Trust for Public Land’s annual ParkScore Index, Denver is currently ranked #11 out of the 100 largest U.S. cities. Denver’s ParkScore has been climbing since ranking #29 in 2019, and the Denver Park Trust aims to increase its score each year. The largest areas in need of improvement are acreage and equity — two areas the Denver Park Trust is actively working to address through investment and project selection.
3,300 volunteers have helped steward Denver parks
Since the Denver Park Trust initiated its Stewardship & Resiliency program in 2022, the organization has activated 3,300 volunteers for a value of $240,000. Volunteer projects include traditional activities like picking up trash and painting benches, as well as resiliency projects like native landscape restoration, open space management, and planting pollinator gardens.
