The Aldo Leopold Foundation

Founded in 1982, the Aldo Leopold Foundation honors the legacy of Aldo Leopold by promoting his vision of a land ethic. Established by the five children of Aldo and Estella Leopold, they entrusted the foundation with the rights to their father’s writings and the historic Leopold Shack and surrounding lands in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Today, ALF offers educational programs, land stewardship initiatives, and community outreach to foster ecological awareness to audiences from across the world totaling over 500,000. To celebrate US forests and to advocate for their constructive management, we developed a communications campaign centered on a broadcast television documentary series for PBS and multi-faceted social media outreach. America’s Forests captures the breadth of our nation’s woodlands – both public and private. We feature different stories that demonstrate how forest habitats are to the well-being and economic health of communities across the country. In this series, we present individuals who embody this passion for the woods, from architects to artists, from climbers to carpenters.
