Sources of Strength Elementary Digital Platform

Catalyze a subscription platform that helps elementary schools build belonging and strength before crisis begins.

Description

The campaign will unlock a scalable, sustainable way to deliver Sources of Strength Elementary as youth mental health challenges emerge earlier and schools seek practical prevention tools that fit the school day. With the program already in more than 1,000 elementary schools across the United States and Canada, demand and impact are strong—but a print-heavy, static model limits implementation support, ongoing engagement, and growth.

The campaign will build a subscription-based digital ecosystem that goes beyond digitizing curriculum. It will deliver digital curriculum access alongside educator implementation tools, dashboards, fidelity supports, student worksheets and activities, communities of learning, training resources, evaluation tools, and ongoing content updates—making upstream mental health promotion easier to integrate and more consistent to implement.

Impact will be tracked through built-in evaluation and fidelity tools, supported by ongoing research. The partnership opportunity is structured as Program Related Investment financing in the form of a low-cost loan, repaid through earned subscription revenue so philanthropic capital can be recycled for future initiatives.

Why This Moment Matters

Youth mental health challenges and suicidality are emerging earlier than ever, and elementary schools are increasingly seeking practical, developmentally appropriate prevention resources that build protective factors before crisis occurs. At the same time, educators are overburdened and many schools lack accessible, easy-to-implement tools that fit the realities of the school day.

Sources of Strength Elementary is already in more than 1,000 elementary schools across the United States and Canada, with strong demand and meaningful impact. But the current delivery model relies heavily on printed curriculum and static resources—creating barriers to implementation, limiting ongoing engagement and support, and making it harder to scale. Waiting prolongs these constraints just as need is rising.

This moment also matters for sustainability: as federal funding for youth mental health initiatives declines, a one-time purchase model limits the recurring revenue needed for long-term innovation and expansion. A subscription-based digital platform is positioned to create a more resilient, scalable offering while reducing printing and shipping costs.

What This Campaign Can Unlock

If this campaign succeeds, Sources of Strength will create a more accessible and scalable digital ecosystem for its evidence-backed elementary prevention programming—moving beyond static, print-based delivery to a sustainable subscription-based platform.

The platform is designed to make upstream mental health promotion easier to integrate into everyday learning environments by giving schools practical tools and implementation supports. It will expand digital curriculum delivery and provide educator implementation tools, dashboards, fidelity supports, student worksheets and activities, communities of learning, training resources, evaluation tools, and ongoing content updates.

The vision is not simply to digitize a curriculum, but to strengthen the overall implementation experience for educators and schools—improving accessibility, ease of use, engagement, and implementation fidelity so that outcomes can be strengthened while adoption expands across schools and districts.

What This Campaign Delivers

The campaign will deliver a sustainable, subscription-based digital platform that expands how Sources of Strength Elementary is implemented and supported in schools. Specifically, it will deliver digital curriculum delivery; educator implementation tools; dashboards; fidelity supports; student worksheets and activities; communities of learning; training resources; evaluation tools; and ongoing content updates.

Impact will be tracked through built-in evaluation tools and fidelity supports within the platform, alongside Sources of Strength’s ongoing research efforts. Existing evaluation provides a foundation for measurement: mixed-methods studies by the Colorado State University Prevention Research Center found statistically significant improvements in areas including healthy coping, school climate, co-regulation, protective thinking skills, emotion regulation, relationship skills, grit and perseverance, perspective taking, and goal-focused effort; and research from the University of Oregon Suicide Prevention Lab found that 92% of trained elementary coaches reported students actively applying what they learned in real-life situations.

The organization will continue investing in research, including more rigorous quasi-experimental studies, to strengthen the evidence base and expand understanding of what works in upstream youth mental health promotion and prevention, and will use the platform’s tools to support reporting on implementation quality and outcomes.
